In this recent episode of Impetus Digital‘s Fireside Chat, I sat down with Matt Park, Vice President & General Manager (North America) at Dacadoo, to explore digital health engagement and health risk quantification in the COVID-19 era. Among many other things, we delved into the roles of gamification, big data, and wearables.
Here is a sneak peek of our conversation:
Q: Can you talk about the component of self-control and what Dacadoo does around this module?
A: That’s an interesting area and I think, probably, a lot of health and wellness apps don’t have such a thing, but we decided that we should call this out somehow. It’s meant to mean that everybody has certain things that they might do that are outside of the strict guidelines of what is recommended. You have to sort of allow for that in a way. You want to say, “Drinking alcohol is okay, but there are certain parameters for that,” etc.
“Self-control” is meant to be those bad habits that people have, but if they do them in a contained way and in a controlled way, it’s not going to hurt their health so bad. But they need to be aware of it. We have things like “Be aware of how much alcohol you drink”, and there’s a goal for that. Again, once you get into a goal, then you start getting coaching automatically from the app about how to deal with that situation.
There is a number of things like coffee consumption, alcohol consumption, and smoking, and other things like that. It means that we’re admitting that we understand that you do these things, or I, as a user, I admit I do this, and I’m going to continue to do it, but I want to be more aware of how I can control it better and not let it take control my life…
